B.B.A./M.B.A Program for Accounting Majors
Degree Outcomes
Candidates who plan to sit for the CPA exam in Oregon (and most other states) must have completed 150 semester credit hours before taking the test. To provide these students with the necessary hours, the Pamplin School of Business Administration has developed a separate five-year B.B.A./M.B.A. program that allows students to complete both degrees (120 semester credit hour B.B.A. and 30 semester credit hour M.B.A.) in five years. This abbreviated M.B.A. program is intended only for students who will be completing their undergraduate accounting degree including taking BUS 465 and BUS 466. The latter are cross-listed as graduate courses, thus making the program the equivalent of 36 hours. Because specific requirements for CPA licensing vary by state, students should review their state’s CPA requirements.
Eligibility
Students who wish to obtain CPA certification must complete 150 semester credit hours prior to taking the CPA exam. Students enrolled as undergraduates at the University can complete the five-year B.B.A./M.B.A. program to complete the 150 semester credit hours. Eligibility for this five-year program include:
Program Requirements
1. Complete a B.B.A. at the University of Portland with a major in accounting, earning a B average in the following:
2. Earn a cumulative G.P.A. of at least 3.0 through fall semester of senior year.
3. Earn at least 500 on the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT). The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) can be accepted in place of the GMAT exam. The minimum GRE score must be equivalent to earning 500 on the GMAT using the comparison tool. An admissions index score is calculated as 200 times the applicant’s undergraduate G.P.A. plus the GMAT/GRE test score. An index of 1100 is required for admission.
4. Formally apply to the M.B.A. program through the graduate school by April 15 of the senior year. Students must have been accepted into the M.B.A. program prior to enrolling in any courses at the graduate level. Students should note that admission to the M.B.A. program is based on the entire application, not merely quantitative factors. Application requirements may be subject to change.
5. Enter the M.B.A. program within two semesters after the completion of their B.B.A. requirements at the University of Portland.
6. Students should note that the B.B.A./M.B.A. is composed of two separate programs. Undergraduate financial aid and scholarships do not continue in the M.B.A. program. However, financial aid is available in the graduate program.

International Component
All M.B.A. students are required to take an international experience course before they graduate. The courses with the international experience will be identified prior to the beginning of each academic year. The international experience will focus on a course-related project that will require a week-long trip to a foreign destination. Additional travel fees will be collected at the beginning of the course.
