The Office of Residence Life is committed to creating supportive Christian living and learning environments where an education of the heart and hands is as important as the education of the head. We are committed to formation of Christian community in the spirit of the Congregation of Holy Cross. We are also committed to the formation of individuals through caring relationships and interactions between staff, faculty, and students. Our students are called by this mission to involve themselves in faith, service, and leadership experiences for a continuous education of the mind, heart, and hands.

Through their experience in the halls, students learn what it means to love thy neighbor while also caring for one’s self. Student and professional leadership provide residents with a safe, healthy environment enriched with opportunities to develop spiritually, ethically, and socially.

The residential community consists of ten buildings with a choice of single gender and co-ed. Each hall mixes freshman through senior students together, except for Haggerty and Tyson halls, which house only juniors, seniors, and graduate students.

Every community has a chapel and weekly Mass. Other communal amenities and programs include lounges, recreation rooms, storage, and laundry rooms. Community assistants serve at residence hall front desks, providing hospitality, distributing packages, and checking out cooking and recreation equipment to residents and their guests.  Community assistant hours are set by each individual hall.

Leadership in the hall includes a hall director (full-time professional with a master's degree) and assistant hall director (current graduate student), resident assistants (current junior and senior students), and a pastoral resident (Congregation of Holy Cross priest or brother). All members of hall leadership work to build the hall's faith, intellectual, and social community.

Student and professional leaders combine to offer a diverse experience out of the classroom that supports the overall teaching, faith, and service mission of the University.

The Office of Residence Life assists the Office of Physical Plant in the assignment of student tenants to the more than 40 university-owned rental properties. All houses and apartments are located in the immediate neighborhood of the University. The Office of Physical Plant manages the properties, including maintenance concerns as well as coordinating leases and deposits. For more information, please email physicalplant@up.edu.
