University Core Curriculum Requirements — 40 credit hours
		
All University of Portland students progress through a set of shared course options as part of the University’s liberal arts Core Curriculum. This curriculum offers a foundation of multiple lenses to address enduring questions of human concern, integrating the liberal arts, the University mission, and the knowledge, skills, and values needed in a diverse society and in the workplace.

HST 420/430/450 and HST 470 are the designated Writing in the Discipline courses for the B.A. in History.

All history majors will take 
HST 470 during the fall semester of their senior year. Students on Track One will complete their 3-credit hour capstone in 
HST 470. Students on Track Two will begin their 6-credit hour Honors Capstone during 
HST 470 and complete it in 
HST 471, offered the spring semester of their senior year.
			Track One
		
Students on Track One will complete their 3-credit hour capstone project in HST 470 and will choose either an additional 400-level seminar or an additional 300-level class to complete the 33 credit hours required of the major.

Students on Track Two will begin their 6-credit hour Honors capstone project during HST 470 and complete it in HST 471, offered the spring semester of their senior year. 
Students must have a 3.5 GPA in the major or receive permission from the department chair to register for HST 471.
