Is the answer to each problem really just to burst into a song? How did this unique art form develop, why is it so popular and how does it both reflect and shape culture, society and social change? In this class, we will examine the musical and theatrical influences that led to the contemporary Musical Theater genre, as well as common elements that make up a successful Musical. We will study influential Musicals and explore how Musical Theater has both commented on and helped shape historical and contemporary events and culture. Open to all students.
