University of Portland Bulletin 2025-2026

IX. Transfer of Credits

  1. Transfer to the University or from one college or school within the University to another may be made only with the approval of the dean or designee in each area. For students who transfer within the University, courses common in requirements to all schools and divisions of the University will be accepted in transfer and both credit earned and grades received shall be used in computing the G.P.A. of the student.
  2. If, after enrolling in a degree program at the University of Portland, a student wishes to take a course at another institution and use it toward the degree, prior approval of the student’s dean or designee should be obtained. Official transcripts of credits earned in other institutions (high school, college, or university) must come directly from the school to the University of Portland.
  3. Transfer credits from quarter hour institutions are not equivalent to semester hours at the University of Portland. One quarter credit hour equals .67 of a semester credit hour.
  4. University of Portland will evaluate transcripts from regionally accredited universities and colleges for credit transfer. Accepted courses must have grades of C or higher and be taught at the 100-level or above. Courses from international post-secondary institutions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by International Student Services and the Office of the Registrar.
  5. No grade is attached to transfer credit, and it is not included in the student’s University of Portland grade point average.
