Leader Certificate Program

Dave Houglum, Ph.D., director of leadership

The University’s Leader Certificate Program is focused on preparing the next generation of leaders with the knowledge, tools, and mindset that model, motivate, and engage others to make right and just choices for the common good. The 1-credit Foundations of Leadership course (LDR 225) introduces students to the program. During this course, students explore what it means to be a leader, assess and understand their strengths, explore several leadership theories, and create a personalized leader development plan. The 1-credit Leadership Practice course (LDR 325) is the experiential component of the program. During this course, a leader coach guides each student along his or her journey consisting of 3 leader habit development opportunities. The 1-credit Applied Leadership Reflection course (LDR 425) is taken by students during their final semester in the program. The culmination assignments of a student’s leadership journey are a written philosophy of leadership and a leadership development action plan that each student will take with them into the world to increase their capacity for good. Students who successfully complete all requirements of the program will be awarded a leadership certificate from the Franz Center. Scholarships may be available to students in need of financial assistance.
