University of Portland Bulletin 2015-2016

Health Center

Margaret Trout, MBA, director

The services and programs of the health center are made available to all students to promote wellness and enhance the quality of life at the University. The focus of care is on the individual student with a concern for overall growth and development in academic, social-emotional, physical, vocational, and spiritual domains.

The health center provides confidential and personalized care by primary care and counseling staff, who strive to focus on the whole person and work closely with campus partners to assist with each student’s individual needs. There is no charge for appointments to visit a staff member at the health center. Nominal fees are charged for psychological testing, medication, laboratory testing, and medical supplies. Although insurance is not required to see a professional at the health center, the University believes that a solid health plan is vital to the well-being of students. As such, all full-time undergraduate students are required to carry medical insurance and are automatically enrolled in Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon. Students with comparable existing health insurance coverage may complete an online health insurance waiver through the Northwest Student Health Insurance Consortium (http://tinyurl.com/nh5qw4j). The waiver form for 2015-2016 is available in mid-July. Please have health insurance ID card available.

The health center is located in the upper level of Orrico Hall. For more information call (503) 943-7134 or go to the health center webpage at www.up.edu/healthcenter/.
