HST 330 Ancient Mediterranean World

This course surveys the political, social, cultural, religious, and intellectual history of the ancient Mediterranean and Near East. We begin with the first civilizations of Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt, the roots of western religion in ancient Israel; then proceed through the Bronze Age, archaic and classical Greece; and finish with a lengthy examination of the most stable of ancient civilizations, Rome.
