Theology, B.A.

Track one of the Theology B.A. is designed for students who want to engage in the full range and diversity of theological inquiry. It also prepares students for most graduate programs in theology. In addition to THE 105 (or THE 101 for transfer students only) and THE 205, majors in this track take 28 hours of upper-division courses, six hours of which may be fulfilled with 300-level courses, or a 300-level course and a THEP. All other courses must be taken at the 400-level, and courses taken at a 300-level may not be retaken at a 400-level, or vice versa. Furthermore, students will fulfill 18 of the required 28 hours by taking one course from each of the six sub-disciplines of theology: biblical studies, historical theology, systematic theology, theological ethics, liturgical and sacramental theology, and spirituality. The remaining 10 hours are fulfilled by taking the capstone thesis (THE 498), the one-credit senior presentation (THE 499), and 6 hours of electives.

Track two of the Theology B.A. is designed for students with a particular, focused interest in theology, and for students wanting to double-major in theology. In addition to THE 105 (or THE 101 for transfer students only) and THE 205, majors in the track take 28 hours of upper-division courses, six hours of which may be fulfilled with 300-level courses, or a 300-level course and a THEP. All other courses must be taken at the 400-level, and courses taken at a 300-level may not be retaken at a 400-level, or vice versa. Furthermore, students will fulfill 18 of the required 28 hours by taking 9 hours in each of two broad groups of offerings: a historical-theoretical group (comprising biblical studies, historical theology, and systematic theology), and a practical-applied group (comprising sacramental and liturgical theology, spirituality, and theological ethics). The remaining 10 hours are fulfilled by taking the one-credit senior presentation (THE 499) and 9 hours of electives.
