The Clark Library is the intellectual commons for the campus, providing students with current technologies, multi-format resources, and flexible learning spaces. Library faculty and staff work closely with students and professors to make optimal use of the Library’s innovative spaces, services, and resources. The main floor Service Desk is a central place to get help and there is a chat service for 24-hour research assistance.

Services and Resources

Study and Learning Spaces: The main and upper floors are collaborative areas with a variety of seating options. The lower floor is the Quiet Floor for focused study. There are twenty group study rooms that can be reserved online; nine are equipped with monitors and computer connections.

Technology: The main floor lab has 50 Windows computers, along with printers and copier/scanners. The Digital Lab on the upper floor has 16 Mac computers, scanners, a large format printer, a 3D printer, plus equipment that can be borrowed. The main floor Service Desk also checks out laptops and chargers.

Collections: The Library provides access to a wealth of information and the database tools for finding it from on campus or off campus. Collections include books, eBooks, streaming videos, DVDs, journals, eJournals, articles, CDs, and more. Beyond the local library collection, resources from other libraries can be requested using UP Library Search.

Research Support: The Research Desk on the main floor is the place to get help with finding and using information for assignments and projects. Librarians are also available for individual consultations and to teach research sessions for classes. Online subject and course guides supplement in-person assistance.

Course Reserves: The course reserves service provides access to readings and articles for courses. Many class texts are also available to borrow from the library.

Digital Lab: The Library’s self-service Digital Lab offers students the space, equipment, software, and expert assistance to produce audio, video, photography, and design projects. Users from novice to expert are welcome. Cameras and sound equipment can be checked out, and a virtual reality cart can be reserved for use in the adjacent Image Production Studio. 

Digital Collections: The Library creates Digital Collections featuring photographs, artifact images, and media to highlight the University of Portland story and support teaching and learning at the University. Collections include Art on CampusCampus Aerial Views and MapsUniversity BuildingsHistory of Nursing, and University Songs.
