University of Portland Bulletin 2020-2021

Minor in Sustainability

The sustainability minor is intended as a complement to core fields of study. It focuses on sustainability as a framework for assessing social, environmental, and economic constraints and opportunities for value creation for organizations. All students minoring in sustainability will be better prepared for careers where sustainability is a major focus (e.g. sustainability managers, chief environmental officers, sustainable development specialists) and in all careers where organizations are facing rising consumer, regulatory, and competitive pressure to improve environmental and social outcomes (e.g. employees in the building, education, energy, food and transportation industries).

The minor in sustainability is open to students of all majors. It requires five upper-division courses, excluding prerequisites. Only one upper-division course can be cross-counted in both the minor and another major.
