HST 352 The United States and the Pacific Rim
This course focuses on the cultural, economic, environmental, and political developments of the nations of the Pacific from early-modern times to the present. Major emphasis will be given to the histories of the Pacific island nations including, but not limited to, Hawaiʻi, Guam, Sāmoa, and the Philippines. The class will highlight the long-term effects of the foreign relations and colonization of the Pacific as well as the efforts to rebuild national identities and sovereignties.
