University of Portland Bulletin 2024-2025

Veterans

Prospective students eligible for veteran’s educational benefits should contact the School Certifying Official in the Office of Financial Aid at University of Portland at the time application for admission is made.

Any student receiving veteran’s educational benefits while attending University of Portland is required to obtain transcripts from all previously attended schools and submit them to the school for review of prior credit.

Benefit recipients are required to notify the School Certifying Official of any adds, drops, withdrawals, or changes of program of study.

The educational records of the students receiving benefits, as well as other students not on benefits (for comparison), may be provided to authorized state and federal personnel without prior consent of the student under 45 CFR. Part 99.3 and Part 99.35 (Protection and the Right of Privacy of Parents and Students).

Information regarding the use of veteran tuition benefits, including a handbook for veteran’s benefits at the University of Portland, is available on the Office of Financial Aid website at up.edu/finaid/other-aid/veterans.

For Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Ch 33), VR & E (Ch 31) students, our tuition policy complies with 38 USC 3679(e), which means Post 9/11 and Veteran Readiness and Employment students will not be penalized due to a delay in VA tuition and fee payments. For eligibility consideration, students using VA benefits must submit a VA Certificate of Eligibility (COE). Please see 38 USC 3679(e) for complete details.

GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government website at www.benefits.va.gov/gibill.

If additional guidance is needed, the School Certifying Official can be contacted by email at veterans@up.edu, by telephone at (503) 943-7311, or at the Office of Financial Aid in Waldschmidt Hall.
