University of Portland Bulletin 2025-2026

Clark Library

Christina Prucha, M.L.I.S., Ed.D., head of collection services and interim dean

The Clark Library stands at the center of intellectual life at the University of Portland, fostering connections and knowledge creation to help students, faculty, and staff excel in research, scholarship, and creative expression. Through extensive collections, investments in tools for innovation and technology, and dedicated faculty and staff, the Library supports students wherever they are located.

The library building is an educational commons that offers students a place to gather, share ideas, create, and learn. The Service Desk on the main level is a central hub for borrowing materials and getting assistance with using the library’s services and resources. Research help is also available at the Service Desk and through a 24/7 library chat service.

Services and Resources

How to Use the Library: This online guide is for anyone new to UP or in need of a quick refresher and provides a self-paced introduction to library services and resources.

Study and Learning Spaces: The main and upper levels are collaborative areas with a variety of seating options. The Library has two quiet study options, a dedicated Quiet Floor for focused study on the lower level and the Quiet Study Lounge on the upper level. There are 23 group study rooms that can be reserved online; nine are equipped with monitors and computer connections. Booths and individual study carrels are also reservable.

Technology: The main level lab has Windows and Mac computers, along with printers and two copier/scanners. Wireless printing is available. The Service Desk loans out laptops, chargers, hotspots, headphones, and more.

Collections: The Library provides access to a wealth of information, and the search tools for finding it. The collection includes books, e-books, CDs, DVDs, journals, e-journals, streaming videos, and more. Resources at other libraries can be easily requested with timely delivery.

Course Reserves: Many instructors use the library’s course reserves service to make class materials available to students free of charge.

Research Support: Librarians are available for individual consultations and to meet with classes to provide library instruction. Subject and course guides as well as a chat service for 24-hour research assistance, are available through the library website.
