ED 516 Foundations of Language & Literacy

Candidates will learn the essential components of foundational literacy: oral language, phonological awareness, decoding, encoding, word recognition, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. The course will discuss the connection between reading and writing, focusing in on handwriting, spelling and sentences. Candidates will also learn about the importance of text selection and how to use text to support knowledge building.
