Post Baccalaureate and Post Master’s Certificates and Specializations
The School of Education offers advanced preparation for licensed teachers who hold either a bachelor's or master's degree in education. Baccalaureate-prepared candidates may complete a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in any of the following areas: Reading Intervention, Special Education Generalist, or English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). Master’s-prepared candidates may complete a Post Master’s Certificate in any of the following areas: Reading Intervention, Special Education Generalist, ESOL, Principal License, Professional Administrator License, or Higher Education and Student Affairs. A Post Baccalaureate and Post Master’s Social and Emotional Learning Specialization, a Post Baccalaureate Initial Teacher Licensure Pathway Certification, and an Educational Specialist option are also available. All Post Baccalaureate and Post Master’s Certificate and Specialization courses conform to the academic regulations of the Graduate School.
Coursework in the following undergraduate and graduate endorsement programs is delivered entirely online: Reading Intervention Endorsement, Special Education Generalist Endorsement, and English for Speakers of Other Languages Endorsement.
Post Baccalaureate Certificate Admission Requirements
- Statement of Goals.
- Current resume.
- Two graduate recommendation letters.
- Copy of United States issued teaching license (must be current and valid).
- Official transcripts from all previously attended academic institutions.
- A bachelor's degree or its equivalent in education from an accredited college or university recognized by the University of Portland.
Post Master’s Certificate Admission Requirements
- Statement of Goals.
- Current resume.
- Two Graduate Recommendation Letters.
- Letters of recommendation are not required for the Higher Education and Student Affairs specialty option.
- Copy of United States issued teaching license (must be current and valid).
- For the Principal License specialty option, a counseling license may be submitted in lieu of a teaching license. Additionally, the Principal License specialty option requires a minimum of 3 years of in-school experience as a licensed educator for admission.
- The Professional Administrator License specialty option also requires a current and valid Principal License, Preliminary Administrator License, or Initial Administrator License for admission.
- A teaching license is not required for the Higher Education and Student Affairs specialty option.
- Official transcripts (from all previously attended academic institutions).
- A master's degree or its equivalent from an accredited college or university recognized by the University of Portland.
- International Applicants: An official score from either the TOEFL (minimum score of 88) or IELTS (minimum score of 7.0) exam is required.
