Transfer Students
Transfer applicants must be in good academic and conduct standing at their most recent institution attended. Admission to University of Portland is determined by evaluation of the student’s overall academic record and ability to return to their most recent institution. Many academic programs require specific coursework and a college cumulative grade point average above 3.0.
Applicants admitted as transfer students must have taken post-secondary courses after graduating from high school or receiving a GED. Students seeking admission with fewer than 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of attempted credit will be required to submit an official final high school transcript with graduation date or official GED report and furnish the University with official transcripts from the college(s) attended. Students planning to transfer 30 or more semester hours or 45 or more quarter hours need to submit all official transcripts from all colleges attended, even if they do not believe those courses will transfer to University of Portland.
When students transfer from an accredited college or university, all acceptable credits are counted in determining the class rating. (Students are classified as sophomores if they have obtained, not attempted, at least 30 semester hours of credit; as juniors, 60 hours; as seniors, 90 hours.) Students transferring into the University as sophomores, juniors, or seniors will complete the requirements in the curriculum in which they are enrolled.
With the approval of the academic dean, credits designated as transfer (100-level or above) with a grade of C (2.00) or higher, may be accepted from community colleges and baccalaureate degree-granting institutions accredited by regional accrediting associations, as well as by professional accrediting agencies when appropriate, subject to the limitations imposed by the degree requirements of a student’s specific major. Academic credit for other courses and advanced placement may also be given with approval of the academic dean.
